Learning the rules, finding your community game, building basic skills, even just understanding what 0-0-2 means and why the game starts there can be a lot. What you wear when you start can feel overwhelming, but it’s pretty simple once broken down.
The Three Categories Of Pickleball Apparel
There are three basic categories that typical pickleball apparel can fall into; The Serious Stuff, Comfortably Casual, and Shared Sports. The Shared Sports apparel is typically something that is multi-purpose, like Basketball shorts or general gym attire. This is a great place to start since there’s no reason to invest before becoming invested. The Serious Stuff usually features large brand logos and feels overly serious for a casual game or even local play. Yet this comes out a lot, as picklers tend to get excited about gear. The sweet spot is Comfortably Casual. This is your basic tanks and tees, with minimal or simple design, and high quality cotton content for both indoor and outdoor use. A look that represents the sport, but doesn't scream professional mindset. This has that on court / off court appeal.
